4-H horse and dog project members take a ‘Leashes and Leads’ field trip

Buffalo County 4-H Horse and Dog Project members traveled to Leashes and Leads Equine Park in Byron, Minnesota on April 2, 2022 for and educational tour of their facility. 4-H members enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about how they care for their horses and dogs. One of the 4-H volunteers wrote the following about their travel to Leashes and Leads:

“Ghera, our Equine barn tour guide, is an intern veterinary student from Peru.  She was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person willing to answer questions and explain the how and why a system or product was chosen and the importance of biosecurity with horses.   From the welcome at the lobby door through the entire facility the warmth and friendliness of staff was apparent.  Horses, students, and boarders were glad to be there.   The barn had about 25 stalls and an indoor arena. The viewing room above the arena had extra space to learn and enjoy the action in the arena below.

Amber and Megan, our Dog facility tour guides, shared the numerous buildings to house dogs for short-term stays including day care, playgrounds, dog suites, grooming area, training area and the cat room.   Employees get to enjoy cuddle time with dogs as purchased by their owners and they knew almost all the dogs which on this day were over 80.   Information on schedules and operations was interesting when managing so many dogs.  Amber and Megan also shared about benefits of being employed there.  The training courses and services were a highlight to learn about for our group.   The outdoor dog park was also fun for Ava Goetting and Avery Bambenek.  The gourmet dog treats were truly works of art.”
