6th graders at C-FC test ocean gliders for National 4-H STEM Challenge

Mr. Holt’s 6th grade students at Cochrane-Fountain City Elementary participated in the 2022 National 4-H STEM Challenge on October 28, 2022. Students tested their model ocean robot gliders in test tanks of water using the scientific inquiry method just like the scientists at Rutgers University. Students used scales to weigh the density of their glider and worked to ballast it in the test tank. They used math to find the correct mass of their prototype and reach neutral buoyancy in both freshwater and saltwater. The challenge was presented by Buffalo County 4-H Youth Development Educator, Annie Lisowski, who has partnered with local schools for the annual critical thinking event for many years.
