University of Wisconsin – Extension Child Care Clinics

University of Wisconsin-Extension’s 2014 Child Care Clinic training series will be offered throughout Buffalo County in June and July.  CFC School, June 2-5; Alma School, June 9-12; Gilmanton School, June 16-19; Mondovi School, June 30-July 3.

It’s a reality in our rural Buffalo County that many children care for themselves, younger siblings, and also provide child care services for other families in informal arrangements.  The Child Care Clinic training contributes to greater child safety and better quality care for children.  Nearly 100 Buffalo County students each year, ages 11 and up, participate in this important training.

Mary Wood, UW-Extension Family Living Agent and Annie Lisowski, UW-Extension  4-H and Youth Development Agent, and Liz Hoffmaster, R.N., CFC school nurse (at CFC site only) will be teaching the classes.  Topics include: leadership, responsible decision-making, problem solving, ages and stages of child development, managing conflict and difficult behaviors with children, toys and games, safety, first aid, the Heimlich Maneuver, and managing emergency situations.  Students also learn basics of professionalism, business practices and money management, especially the importance of saving, and making wise spending decisions and setting financial goals.

In order to earn a card of satisfactory completion, each student must show evidence of responsibility throughout the series by fully participating in learning activities, completing homework assignments, and demonstrating skill mastery.

The cost of the clinic is $10.00; however confidential scholarships for a part or all of the cost are available upon request.  Registration forms are available at all of the school districts and at the UW-Extension Office.  Youth may bring registration forms and payment with them to the first day of class, however, pre-registration is required no later than one week prior to the beginning of the class they wish to attend.

For more information and to pre-register, contact the Buffalo County UW-Extension Office at 608-685-6252 or e-mail
