Sixth Grade Battle Bots STEM Challenge at C-FC

On January 20th, Mr. Holt’s sixth grade students at Cochrane-Fountain City school participated a critical thinking pilot robot engineering challenge. Students worked to design their own armor for their battle bots using makerspace materials, iPads, and mini sphero robots. Students used the inquiry design process to test their prototypes and explore how mass, speed, and the center of gravity impacted the success of their battle bot. The STEM challenge concluded in the battle arena with a competition to see which designs worked best at defending their balloon while trying to pop other battle bots’ balloons. The students are looking forward to the earned opportunity to use block coding with the mini spheros later in the semester with 4-H Youth Development Educator, Annie Lisowski. The STEM challenge resources and tools are supported by the Buffalo County 4-H Leaders Association.
