Alma Area School and UW-Madison Division of Extension Buffalo County are providing a Tractor and Machinery Safety course for youth ages 12-15.  The minimum age requirement for this class, as set in WI Act 178 effective May 1998, is 12 years old (12 and 13 year old youth can only drive on their parents farm).  However, the course and literature are geared towards youth 14 -15 years old.  Certification will not be valid until the youth turns 14.

The State of Wisconsin requires any youth under the age of 16 that is driving farming implements on roads be certified and participate in a Wisconsin Safe Operation of Tractor and Machinery Certification Program. See Wisconsin Act 455.

This class is not intended to make youth expert tractor/machinery operators.  It will teach youth the basics of tractor and machinery operation and safety.
