The 2012-2013 Buffalo County 4-H Countywide Service-Learning Project was to promote local literacy projects through intergenerational reading opportunities and the creation of Little Free Libraries. As a result of 4-H members service, the establishment of nearly 30 Little Free Libraries occured all filled with free books for exchange. The mission of the Little Free Library is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.

Youth leaders were careful to include books from diverse cultures and in multiple languages in this Little Free Library to promote literacy for all. The Barn Quilt Service Learning Project is a project designed to promote Agricultural Tourism in Buffalo County.
