UW-Madison Extension Partners with Iowa State to Bring Trusted Food Preservation and Safety Advice to Wisconsin

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension is excited to
announce a new partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s AnswerLine
to provide Wisconsin residents with reliable, research-based guidance on food preservation and
other home-related questions.

AnswerLine, operated by trained consumer and family scientists, has been a trusted resource
for over 50 years, answering questions about:

  • Home food preservation (canning, freezing, drying)
  • Food preparation and safety
  • Nutrition and household management

Starting October 1, Wisconsin residents can access this resource through a dedicated
Wisconsin phone number: 1-866-540-4636. Questions can also be emailed to
answer@iastate.edu. The service is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon
and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

“This collaboration ensures Wisconsin communities have access to reliable,
research-based information to support everyday decision-making,” said a UW Extension
staff member. “Whether it’s preparing food safely, troubleshooting a household cleaning
issue, or managing a family budget, AnswerLine provides guidance you can trust.”

Extension staff will continue to offer pressure canner testing services in various local offices to
complement the guidance provided by AnswerLine. For more information about pressure canner
