Service-Learning

Service-Learning
Service-learning in 4-H helps youth build leadership, empathy, and teamwork by learning about real community needs, taking action throught service, and reflecting on their impact. Each year, Buffalo County chooses a service-learning project for all clubs to explore together.
2026 Service-Learning Project
Connections Across Generations
This year’s countywide service‑learning project focuses on building meaningful connections with older adults living in nursing homes, assisted living communities, and memory‑care facilities.
4-H members will learn about the unique needs of older adults, plan a thoughtful club-level project, take action through service, and reflect on the impact they create.
This project encourages youth to practice empathy, leadership, communication, responsibility, and intergenerational understanding.
Why This Project Matters
Wisconsin’s population of older adults continues to grow, and many residents in care facilities experience isolation, limited mobility, and reduced opportunities for connection. Through this project, 4-H youth can help brighten someone’s day, build relationships, and strengthen their community — one visit, card, craft, or conversation at a time.
