On Thursday, April 10th, 2025 from 9:00 am- 2:00 am, all the Buffalo County 12th grade students from Alma, Cochrane-Fountain City, Gilmanton, and Mondovi School Districts will be participating in the annual Buffalo County Senior Day. The main goal of Senior Day is to provide resources to graduating students that will help prepare them for transition to university or college, the workforce, and/or the military. The featured speaker is Mike McGowan, a motivational speaker who has engaged thousands of youth and adults with his humor and real-life scenarios. McGowan has been a staple of Buffalo County Senior Day for two decades. Also joining the agenda is Buffalo County Sheriff Mike Osmond who will discuss drug enforcement and trends in the county and information for seniors as they become adults. Shane Urness, who shares his personal story and experiences with drinking and driving with students will complete the presentations. The topics of mental health and appropriate and safe drug and alcohol use are target prevention areas for our twelfth graders based on local research data.

The presentation is being sponsored and funded by the Buffalo County Partnership Council (BCPC). BCPC is a local coalition made up of students, educators, law enforcement, university faculty, and public health advocates that provide collaborative prevention programming to educate youth and their families to make healthy choices and positively influence people and policies.
Each BCPC staff advisor will work on class scheduling logistics with 12th grade students and teachers. Refreshments will also be provided for seniors in attendance at school.
