Durand and Pepin high school students who serve as Buffalo/Pepin Teen Court panel members heard two cases on Wednesday, December 11th. The teen court youth asked restorative justice questions to create authentic consequences for youth with retail theft violations. The purpose of the requirements are to help make things right with those they have harmed and with themselves. Youth may be required to write apology letters, conduct community service, or complete an online course in order to rethink their actions and change their behavior. The Buffalo/Pepin County Teen Court hears about 30 juvenile cases a year from referrals from schools, law enforcement, human services, and the judge.
