Students in Mr. Holt’s sixth grade classroom at Cochrane-Fountain City school utilized their critical thinking skills to code mini robots on January 27th and January 28th. The students accepted four challenges to use block coding to complete Ancient Olympic trials in long jump, ski jump, 400 m dash, and chariot racing with their mini robots. Young people had to use the concepts of speed, tilt, drag, and rotation on its axis combined with math skills in circular degrees to complete their challenges. Utilizing problem solving with robots helps prepare sixth grade students to utilize tools in fabrication labs in middle and high school. The program was presented by 4-H Youth Development Educator, Annie Lisowski, from the UW-Madison Division of Extension in Buffalo County.
