Tractor Safety Course Offered

The Alma Area School plans to host a Tractor and Machinery Safety course for youth ages 12-15. The minimum age requirement for this class as set in WI Act 178 effective May 1998, is 12 years old (12 and 13-year-old youth can only drive on their parent’s farm). However, the course and literature are geared toward youth 14-15 years old. Federal certification will not be valid until the youth turns 14.

The State of Wisconsin requires youth under the age of 16 that drive farm implements on roads be certified and participate in a Wisconsin Safe Operation of Tractor and Machinery Certification Program. See Wisconsin Act 455.


Open to youth ages 12-15 with preference given to Buffalo County residents. 

  • August 6 – 9, 2024 Classroom Sessions – 8:00am – 4:00pm each day
  • Written Exam – August 8th
  • Driving Exam – August 9th at Lindstrom Equipment Inc., Modena, WI

A required parent orientation will take place at 8:00am on August 6th, first day of class, for approximately 30 minutes.   

Cost of the course is $30.00 per student. Payable to Extension Buffalo County on the first day of class.

Online pre-registration is required by Monday, July 29, 2024.  Childs name, age, date of birth, parent’s name, complete mailing address and a daytime phone number must be provided at time of registration.

Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch and beverage each day.

Classes will take place at the Alma School, Alma, WI. The driving exam will take place at Lindstrom Equipment, Inc., Modena, WI. Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to each location.
